black redstarts at newhaven west beach and cuckmere haven which was eerily quiet due to police closing the seven sisters cp; evidently there was a murder there in the early hours - pretty unexpected at that location.

an afternoon visit to arlington produced a yellow-legged gull and a little stint with 4 dunlin.

juv ylg at west rise. it's got to the time of year when head moult makes them stand out from herring gulls. while i was looking at it through the scope i noticed a lesser emperor bombing about in the middle of the lake - not helpful! a red kite went over the road between west rise and shinewater in the evening but i couldn't stop. that one day of rain has done enough to cover all the wading mud but yesterday there were 5 green sands, 1 greenshank, 1 dunlin and 2 snipe, and first returning wigeon and bearded tit. 

popped down to west rise to look at dragons, first one i saw was a lesser emperor! after a little while of watching it flew off to chase away another dragon... another lesser emperor! the two remained patrolling a short territory along the northeast corner of the lake. not as easy to photograph as migrant hawker. the last one i saw in the uk was nearby at shinewater 13 years ago. not much on the bird front, new in were 1 dunlin and 1 snipe.
